Trading

The sale of seeds, fertilisers, composts, pesticides and potatoes to members, has long been a part of the Gardening Club tradition. The object is to buy in bulk and then resell to members at a discounted price.

Suggestions for items you think should be stocked can be sent to the Trading organiser by following this link: email

The Gardening Club also has an arrangement with Suttons to buy from their catalogue in bulk which achieves a significant discount, most of which can be passed on to members - currently of the order of 20 to 25%.

The sale of growmore fertiliser has reduced markedly in recent years, reflecting the change to more organic methods, but the sale of farmyard manure has increased enormously.

Currently trading takes place on a Saturday and Sunday morning between 10:00 a.m. and 12 noon from the allotment shop in Albany Road.

In 2009 a Bulb Purchase scheme was introduced which proved popular and which is likely to be continued in the future. Look out in the newsletter for further information.

When the Gardening Club became a Charity in February 2007, the rules governing trading by a charity meant that the trading operation had to be clearly separate from the charitable activities. Accordingly a company has been formed which is managed by the Board of Trustees and which handles all the trading activities.

We constantly seek to meet the needs of Gardening Club members and if you wish us to consider stocking a particular product please email.

We are keen to promote the use of peat free compost and a recipe for making an excellent product can be found here.
